Back to quilting!

Almost finished with Sasha's Quilt, just need to clip threads and bind, and then it will keep me nice and warm.  ðŸ˜¸

What have I been doing?

Most of last year was spent making Jewelry with Angel.  We were able to sell quite a bit in New York, thanks to one of my sisters, Iris, who is my best promoter and a great Sales Person.  ðŸ˜¸  In  2016, we joined a 3 day Braselton Festival event.  These were the hardest 3 days ever, and made enough funds to pay for the spot rental plus $200, not because our jewelry wasn't beautiful, but because the location of the spot was not easily accessible to buyers.  Most all vendors, that were up on this sloped area, did poorly in sales. During the 6 months of preparation for the event, I stayed away from my first love, quilting.  Although I did enjoy making the jewelry, I felt like I had no breathing time to do anything else.

In October, I lost my furry baby, my dear Sasha seemed to have been fine until 6 weeks before we had to end her suffering.  She had a tumor in her liver, that had been detected a year earlier but I had been told it was benign. This particular vet gave Sasha too much anesthesia during her biopsy surgery, which caused her to go practically blind! i won't go into what happened that made us realize he was more interested in making money than caring for our pets, so I immediatelly switched vets.  When  I switched to a new, well recommended vet,she said that had the vet handled the situation immediatelyy she would have gotten her eyesight back! In September, Sasha was back to see the new vet, the poor baby was often constipated and we did not know why.  The new vet did a big blood workup and the bloodwork showed signs of cancer.  Within a one month period, my baby went from 6 lbs to 3 lbs, yet she never gave up on following me everywhere, nor meeting us at the door whenever we returned from docs, or errands.  When she started urinating outside her litter box I knew she was trying to tell me it was time.   The vet gave me some pain meds for her and told me to keep her comfortable but to bring her back when she stopped eating.  Within the 2 weeks that I kept her home, I cried, hugging and kissing her, as much as I could.  We adopted Sasha when she was about 1 yr old, on Oct. 18th, 2002  and she was put to sleep on Oct. 17th, 2016.  We had her for 14 wonderful years.  In her memory I started making a quilt with embroidered silhouettes of cats.  All I have left to do is clip threads from the machine embroidered cats, and add the binding.  Losing a beloved pet is horrible, painful, and one feels as if a piece of them has been cut out of their heart.   😿

Pinterest

Oooops, my Pinterest site can be searched,i in Pinterest, under Gloria Borrero, or, GB59able.
Thanks for looking it up.

Enjoying quilting, making jewelry, and just LIFE itself.

It has been a fun and busy few months.  I am actually multi-tasking. 😅
I found a new love in making jewelry, Kumihimo.
Have you tried your hand at it? You will get hooked, just as I did.   I have made so many ropes, both with and without beads. The fun part is that Angel has learned to make Poly Clay beads, and Cabachons, that I will use for my jewelry making.
Yep, my hubby, Angel, making a large request of beads for me.

The Teal  necklace, I made using only his Poly Clay beads and Pendant.
 .
The Kumihimo rope with disk beads, was made with a beautiful yarn, along with Angel's handmade beads.

The following one has drop beads in the center.  The bracelet is finished, just not in the picture.

I'll wait for the next post, to show the one with Pip beads, and a few others I have made.

Somewhere in between having fun making jewelry, I made a gorgeous quilt for my daughter. She love Little Red Riding Hood, and I got the most precious fabrics to make it.  All I need is to FMQ the border, and add binding.
Until next time, love life, love those that are with you, as if they might not be around for another day.
In the meantime, please visit my Pinterest site, Gloria Borrero, or GB58able,  and look at the boards 'Brag Jewelry'  and 'My Own Jewelry Creations.'   Enjoy

A stressful year.

My goodness, I can't believe I haven't posted anything in a year, but then, as I look back, my husband has had lots of health issues and I have been taking care of him.  In the beginning of the year, he could hardly walk or get up from the sofa. His knees were 'bone on bone' and he has a deteriorating  spinal column. (all of his discs are either bulging or just wasting away. He has actually lost 3 1/2 inches in height in the past 5 years)

He agreed to one  knee replacement, and we are so happy he did! He was walking within 2 1/2 weeks, has hardly a visible scar, and his other knee feels better. Yay!

I'll keep it short, the night he walked, I video taped him so mom could see him. (she worries so much for him.)  That night, he developed a fever of 102 and had horrible pains in his entire abdomen. A rush to the ER at 10 pm, and we find out he has Sepsis! What???  Yep.  It had nothing to do with the knee surgery but everything to do with the entire right side of his Colon not functioning.  2 main arteries, connected to that side of the Colon, were severely clogged and so the Colon had not been getting Blood nor Oxygen, so it basically shriveled up.  After a 6 day stay at the hospital, doctors, our daughter and son-in-law's support, our congregation, friends, family, and most of all God Almighty, helped him through this. Had he stayed home through that first night, I would, more than likely, not have him with me today. He had bacteria in his blood and muscles.

Not over yet guys, the inflammation had to go down, before he could have a Colectomy.  While waiting, he could not travel, except close to home.  In the meantime, his very best brother-in-law passed away from a very rare type of cancer.  We could not travel to see him before he died, nor to support his sister when he died.  This was the very hardest thing.

Oct 31st he has his Colectomy and we had so many our of brothers and sisters from our congregation coming to support us every single day. All of the brothers said wonderful prayers, for both of us, which was such a help.   Well, he made it through another grave incident, but we prayed for Jehovah to give us strength to handle whatever came our way, and He did.  Psalm 55:22 tells us to throw our burden upon Jehovah, and He himself would sustain us.  We did just that, and did not take back what we asked Him to handle. (sometimes, we say we throw our cares on Him, but continue to hang onto them, instead of trusting in Him to help us cope with the  issue..  We have learned that by leaving things with Him,  He gives us total peace of mind. We are putting all of our faith in Him)

This brings us to the end of 2014. The beginning of 2015, is another story.😢

Debbie Shore has a cute tutorial, well, MANY cute tutorials, on YouTube. Recently, she posted one one how to make a wallet that has spaces for credit cards, a zippered compartment, and a place for 'whatever'.  I've been busy making two of them, but I tweeked the pattern, making the purse smaller and adding 2 sections for credit cards, deleting the space for 'whatever'. It should have been a quick and easy projrct, but for the past 2 weeks Fibromyalgia has been devouring me, so there has not been much energy for doing anything. I am almost done, all that is left is attaching the bias binding, which she also has video on how to make your own. Instead of making individual binding strips and sewing each piece, I searched for instructions on making continuous bias making, and found some good videos on the subject. It makes the project go a bit faster and gave me a good feeling of accomplishment.
So, here are pictures of them

Oops , this picture came out a bit slanted.
You get the picture.

I will post pictures of the finished products. If anyone is interest in purchasing a wallet, I can make them in different colors, but with fabric from my stash. The 'wallet' measures 8 1/2 inches wide, and approx. 5 inches when closed, a bit larger than a standard wallet. I can make them smaller, if you like.

There are many people I follow on YouTube, but lately I am hooked on viewing Leah Day's videos.  She started a new Free Motion Quilt Along for 2014 and I am challenging myself to see if I can go to the finish. So far, I see the gradual improvement in my being able to FMQ. Last nite I did the Wiggly Pasta block, I when I saw it, I said 'No Way!' but to my surprise, it turned out to be one of the easiest and most satisfying

The other site, which I have just come across, is on Sewing, by Izzie MEIMsaab. Love her tutorials on making totes and bags! She also has a paid channel on making clothing. Very professional, another MUST
SEE videos.

Ah yes, my Favorite Bead Shop, Beadjoux in Braselton Georgia, only a couple miles away from home.  yay! The great ladies offer free classes, once a month.  I was able to attend one, showing us how to make a leather and rhinestone bracelet. Loved it! Since the class, I have made quite a few of them, yes, for my family, here's one I kept for myself.
This is where I took a class, from Jimmie Boatright, on how to make Floating Islands bracelet, designed by Jimmie.  Not completed yet, but well on it's way.  The purple one is mine.

One last note for the day, do any of you know of a verfy easy tutorial on Round RAW?  I've found Cubed, and Flat, but cannot find  'non-confusing' instructions or video.  Would appreciate your help.
